What to expect at your first wax appointment
Thinking about coming in for a wax? You’ve come to the right place! Spruce: Wax & Skin provides exceptional, experienced waxing services for all body areas and gender identities.
Wondering if waxing is right for you? Waxing is a great option for anyone interested in hair removal. Unlike shaving, waxing reduces hair maintenance to once a month with no risk of razor burn. Waxing is also effective on all hair types and is less cost-prohibitive in comparison to laser treatments. So, you can still get great results even if your hair is lightening up – all at a fair price. And, one of the best rewards for waxing – if done consistently, over time the hair grows back finer, sparser, and in some cases, not at all.
Preparing for your appointment
When planning for your appointment, we ask that you arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled service and refrain from bringing guests to the appointment to support the spa atmosphere of the studio. We understand that things do come up from time to time. If you encounter an issue with child care, for example, please contact the receptionist prior to your appointment to discuss options. At times, appointments may need to be rescheduled due to limited supervision, liability, or a number of other factors – when possible we will do our best to work with you. As for Covid-19 procedures, we are asking all guests to wear a mask in the public areas of the studio during their visit and to follow our outlined protocol based on vaccination status. Additional information is available in our “Covid-19 resource section.”
Appointment process
So, what happens once you come in for your appointment? Upon arrival to the Spruce studio, you’ll check in with our helpful receptionist and be directed to your private treatment room. Your licensed esthetician will then discuss your scheduled waxing service and leave the room to allow you to remove any necessary clothing, cover yourself with a towel, and get comfortable on the spa table. Then, your scheduled team member with confirm you are ready for them to enter the room to begin your waxing service. After entering the room, the esthetician will reconfirm the requested service, proceed with waxing the areas discussed, and answer any additional questions along the way. At the end of the service, the esthetician will apply a conditioning and topical solution to prevent irritation. Then, they will leave the room and allow you to privately dress and return to the receptionist area to pay for your services. First time waxing ever not just with Spruce? We are here to not only provide you with exceptional services, but to also help you understand how our products and services work, and the effect they have on your skin’s appearance and hair growth. Provided below are some informative tips to help you prepare for that first visit on your way to silky, smooth skin – welcome to Spruce.
Things to know
- Should I shower prior to my appointment? If possible, we encourage you to wash the areas to be waxed prior to your appointment. To ensure a proper wax, we recommend that you avoid using lotions or oils on your skin prior to your appointment. In the event that you are unable to wash, Spruce will provide hypoallergenic wipes to cleans the area (such as the bikini line) prior to your scheduled waxing service.
- How long does the hair need to be for effective waxing? The general rule is that hair should be at least a quarter of an inch in length (or equal in length to a grain of rice) in order to be long enough to wax. This also equates to roughly one and a half to two weeks of growth for most individuals.
- If my hair isn’t the preferred length, should I trim it? There’s no need to trim your hair in preparation for waxing. In fact, we’d love it if you didn’t. In the event that the hair is longer than needed for waxing, our trained staff will assist you in preparing the hair for waxing. This helps to ensure you get the best quality wax experience – without the risk of taking too much hair length off just before an appointment and missing those too short follicles.
- My menstrual cycle started a few days early, can I still keep my waxing appointment? Yes, we are happy to provide waxing services – even during though monthly visits. If you are menstruating, we ask that you come with a fresh tampon or menstrual cup for your comfort and to ensure healthy sanitation. While you are welcome to keep your appointment, we also want you to understand that your menstrual cycle can make your skin more sensitive and encourage you to make a decision that works best for you.
That’s it! There’s little prep prior to your appointment. We’re here to provide exceptional service and, if you have questions, we are here to answer them. Contact us and we will be happy to answer any additional questions and help you choose the best services for your hair removal needs.
